2014 Student Chef Cook-Off

The Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness, also known as "Fresh for Florida Kids," held a student chef cook-off in Publix Aprons Cooking School locations across the state in the fall of 2014. Students created original snack recipes that contained at least one fresh fruit or vegetable and could be made in 45 minutes or less. 

In the qualifying round, entries were judged based on nutrition, presentation/appeal and originality. There were three qualifying round winners chosen for each grade category per region. The qualifying round winners were invited to prepare their recipe for a panel of judges in a finalist round at their region's Publix Aprons Cooking School.

The finalist round events were held in the fall of 2014.

  • Tampa: Central/West – Sept. 27, 2014
  • Tallahassee: Northwest – Oct. 11, 2014
  • Jacksonville: Northeast – Oct. 25, 2014
  • Miami: South – Nov. 1, 2014
  • Orlando: Central – Nov. 15, 2014

All students who competed in the finalist round were awarded a $50 Visa gift card to reimburse for food and travel expenses and a gift certificate for a Publix Aprons Cooking School class. First place winners also received a $100 gift card to Sports Authority; second place winners received a $75 gift card to Sports Authority; third place winners received a $50 gift card to Sports Authority.
