Bacteriology

Overview

The Bacteriology Section identifies select disease agents affecting Florida’s companion and food animals through a combination of growth characteristics, biochemical reactions and computerized testing systems, all with attendant quality assurance practices. We also have the ability to provide antimicrobial testing, which aids our clients in efficiently and accurately determining how to treat their patients’ infections. Data collected through our work is used to monitor infectious disease patterns and outbreaks in animal populations throughout the state, including changes in antimicrobial responses in certain pathogens over time.
