Bureau of Dairy Industry
The Division of Dairy Industry has moved! As part of legislation passed during the 2011 Legislative Session and later approved by the Governor, the Division of Dairy Industry is now a part of the Division of Food Safety. The changes from the successful passage and enactment of House Bill 7215 took effect on July 1, 2011, when the Division of Dairy Industry became the Bureau of Dairy Industry within the Division of Food Safety.
Overview
The Bureau of Dairy Industry insures that dairy products purchased by Florida consumers are wholesome, produced under sanitary conditions, and correctly labeled. The bureau regulates the production, transporting, processing, distribution, and labeling of milk and milk products. It establishes standards for these products, whether they originate in Florida or other states.
The Bureau of Dairy Industry enforces laws and rules that regulate standards for milk, milk products, ice cream and frozen desserts, and the interstate shipment of milk.
The programs administered by the Bureau of Dairy Industry are part of a uniform national dairy sanitation program outlined in the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) published by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration. Likewise, most of the dairy product quality standards enforced by the bureau are part of the PMO or the Code of Federal Regulations. As in all states, both the PMO and the relevant sections of the Code of Federal Regulation have been adopted in state statute or rule.
