The Bureau of Petroleum Inspection regulates the quality and measurement of petroleum products sold in Florida. Specific activities include field sampling and laboratory testing of gasoline, gasohol, diesel fuel, fuel oil, kerosene, antifreeze and brake fluid. Activities also include routine inspections of retail service station pumps and other commercial petroleum measures for accuracy and correctness and the investigation of citizen complaints on matters within the Bureau's regulatory authority.

Brake Fluid and Antifreeze
- What must one do in order to sell Brake Fluid and/or Antifreeze
in the State of Florida?
You must apply for a permit to sell each brand of brake fluid and antifreeze using the forms on this web site. Please read the instruction page carefully.
- Must one do this every year?
Yes. Brake fluid brands can be renewed for $50 if done by July 1 of the registration year. A $25 late fee is charged if the renewal is submitted after that date. Any new brands must be registered for the $100 fee. Antifreeze is re-registered every year for $200.
- What must one do upon completion of the registration form?
Each form has instructions with it to direct you to the proper address for submission. Be sure that the forms, products and fees are sent to the proper address.
- When can one expect to receive a permit?
After the submitted products have been tested according to Florida Statute specifications, a permit will be issued. This will take approximately two weeks for brake fluid and approximately one month for antifreeze.
- Are the Brake Fluid and Antifreeze products that are placed
in customers' cars by Motor Vehicle Repair and Radiator shops subject
to the same specifications?
Yes. Many of these products are recycled antifreeze. Although these products are not registered as specific brands, the product put into a customer's car must be of the same standard required of a registered brand.

Before selling or offering for sale in this State any petroleum fuel, all manufacturers, wholesalers, and jobbers must complete and submit the affidavit form on this web site.
- Who is required to remit the 1/8 cent per gallon Inspection
Fee?
The inspection fee is imposed on all gasoline, kerosene (except when used as aviation turbine fuel), and #1 fuel oil for sale or use in this State. The inspection fee is collected in the same manner as the motor fuel tax pursuant to section 206.41, F.S.
Service Agencies Registration
- Upon submitting a Service Agencies Registration Application,
must one re-submit it annually?
No.
- Is it possible for a Meter Mechanic to register on line,
also?
No, Meter Mechanics must register at one of the Meter Mechanic Clinics given in the Spring at respective statewide locations. All registered mechanics are notified of the time and location.
