Paraleyrodes minei Iaccarino
Diagnosis: Eggs pale yellow usually surrounded by fluffy wax secreted by adult. Pupal case is fringed by broad wax ribbons that curve downward. Other wax ribbons usually completely cover the pupal case. The adults are uniformly pale yellow. The male is slightly larger than the female and has reddish claspers. Eyes of both sexes are constricted and reddish brown. The forewings have several dusky spots.
Comments: P. minei is easily confused with P. perseae in the field, and these 2 species can only be separated by close microscopic examination in the laboratory. P. minei has 6 pair of abdominal compound pores, two anterior pair smaller. P. perseae has 5 pair of compound pores on the abdomen, with the anterior pair much smaller than the other 4 pair.
This species has been incorrectly determined as P. naranjae on numerous occasions, in Florida.
In the field P. minei may also be confused with Metaleurodicus cardini, Aleurodicus dispersus and possibly Aleurothrixus floccosus.
