TALLAHASSEE - Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson announced today that his department has seized and destroyed some 250 pounds of non- refrigerated contaminated beef, fish, dairy products, vegetables and other food items that were destined for Kissimmee Produce, 1421 John Young Parkway, Kissimmee.
The seizure occurred today at approximately noon, when a pickup truck was observed by Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement's (OALE) investigators in the Orlando area. OALE investigators observed the words “Keep Refrigerated - Perishable” on the 29 cases of food items in an open pickup truck bed. OALE investigators followed the truck to Kissimmee Produce, where investigators made an encounter with the driver Raul J. Lopez Chevalier, an employee of Kissimmee Produce. An examination of the load was conducted, and it was determined that the food articles ranged from partially frozen to completely melted.
After an inspection by Bronson's Food Safety Division, most of the items were declared unsafe and destroyed by officials.
"The diligence exercised by our officers and food safety inspectors has prevented these unfit food items from entering the marketplace and possibly compromising the safety of the public," Bronson said.
