Weights and Measures Metrology Laboratory
The Florida Metrology Laboratory is located in Tallahassee and serves as the foundation for legal measurement and as a certified measurement center for Florida. The State standards of length, mass and volume are directly traceable to the national standards maintained at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The primary and secondary standards are housed in the laboratory and used in verifying the accuracy of working standards used by the scientific, commercial, and industrial communities. The laboratory is recognized for measurement traceability under the Weights and Measures Division Program for State Laboratories (WMD) and accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) Lab Code 200560-0, both within the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the United States Department of Commerce.
The Lab’s staff includes two Metrologists and one Lab Technician. The lab maintains the traceability of the state standards to the national and international standards, and provides an array of mass, length and volume calibration services.
