See the results of the Comprehensive Statewide Forest Inventory Analysis Study, which was mandated by the Florida Legislature in 2012. The study focused on mapping forestland cover, identifying forestland ownership, and analyzing the growth and demand for timber resources by Florida’s primary wood-using mills.
Florida’s forests produce a large variety of specialty non-timber forest products (NTFPs), which can provide forest landowners with additional revenue beyond timber products. The Florida Forest Service defines NTFPs as products that originate from trees or plant parts but are not derived from lumber.
Mandated by Laws of Florida, Chapter 2008-227, Section 113 which reads:
“Woody biomass economic study. – The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Protection, shall conduct an economic impact analysis on the effects of granting financial incentives to energy producers who use woody biomass as fuel, including an analysis of effects on wood supply and prices and impacts on current markets and forest sustainability.
