Bureau of Implementation and Accountability

The Bureau of Implementation and Accountability administers the following programs to ensure that all children in Florida have access to nutritious food:

  • National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs (NSLP, SBP) provides free or reduced-price meals to more than 1 million children in Florida each day through the NSLP and SBP. The programs provide reimbursements to public and private non-profit schools and residential childcare institutions for meals served that meet federal nutrition standards. The division provides training, outreach and technical assistance to sponsors of the programs and ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) issues grant money to select elementary schools on NSLP in low-income areas to provide a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to students, outside of breakfast and lunch. The division oversees the distribution of funds, trains school staff on administering the program and ensures that federal regulations are being met.
  • Afterschool Snack Program (ASSP) provides reimbursements to NSLP sponsors for serving nutritious snacks to children in afterschool educational and enrichment programs. The division conducts training, provides technical assistances and ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Seamless Summer Option (SSO) allows schools that participate in the NSLP during the school year to continue to offer meals to the community in the summer months under the same guidelines and reimbursement rates as the NSLP. The division provides training and technical assistance and ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) allows government entities, faith-based organizations, non-profit agencies and schools serve free meals to children in their communities while school is out for the summer. The division develops strategies to extend meal service to communities in need, advertises the program across the state and ensures that sponsors follow federal regulations.
