Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
Laws and Regulations
Established by the Florida Legislature in 2016, the Healthy Food Financing Initiative directs the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to coordinate the use of $500,000 in state financial assistance to construct, rehabilitate or expand independent grocery stores, independent supermarkets, convenience stores and community facilities to increase access to fresh produce and other nutritious food in underserved and low-income communities.
The Healthy Food Financing Initiative seeks to increase access to whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat dairy, and lean meats that are perishable (fresh, refrigerated or frozen) or canned, as well as nutrient-dense foods and beverages encouraged by the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
The Healthy Food Financing Initiative is being administered by the Florida Community Loan Fund.
