A Permanent Commitment

Commissioner Putnam at the opening of Peace River Camp

Along a quiet stretch of the Peace River in southwest Florida, I was honored to open today a camp fully dedicated to providing Florida's wounded veterans with outdoor opportunities, like hunting, fishing, boating and more.

This new facility is a permanent commitment from the State of Florida to the men and women who put it all on the line to make our liberties and our freedoms, that we so often take for granted, even possible.

Operation Outdoor Freedom is a special way of connecting our natural resources that we're blessed to have in our state with the men and women who courageously and selflessly put their lives on the line for the rest of us. Nearly 3,500 wounded veterans have participated in outdoor activities on state and private lands free of charge through the program.

I want Florida to be the most veteran friendly state in the nation, and Operation Outdoor Freedom is one small way we can show our appreciation for the men and women who have given so much for our country.
